Mansar Talav & Shrines

The Mansar Sarovar is irregular in shape, but resembles a conch shell and is surrounded by flights of steps leading down to water. Originally there were 520 small shrines above the steps or ghat, each with its subsidiary shrine presently only 357 are left. The shrines are of Vaishnav and Saiva sect. The lake  was constructed by Minal Devi, mother of King Sidhhraja Jayasimha in the 13th Century A.D.

Conservation and Preservation

In continuation of previous year’s work, the remaining working of reconstruction of missing flight of steps, landing, upper floor and retaining wall of missing portion of the tank have been attended in order to prevent the further damage of tank and nuisance of animal bathing etc. The work is completed.
